When iron became gold!

You've probably seen the film or maybe even just the trailer of the very recent biopic directed by Phillida Lloyd that tells the story of the first female Prime Minister in Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher. Of course, this prime Prime Minister is also well-known under the nickname of The Iron Lady.

I would first like to explain to you that I’m not claiming to make any critical study of the film; this is not the main purpose of this article, but rather to share my feelings.

Well, there’s nothing to say concerning the acting performances of the main role.

Indeed, Meryl Streep is absolutely fantastic and barely recognizable. All the physical and mental aspects mimicking the Prime Minister were present in the film including, the hair, the overbite and the voice imitation. This explains Streep’s numerous nominations and wins such as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, considered by some gutter press as ‘one of the most important nights in the film industry's calendar’… I think we can take this piece of information seriously though. Other nominations and ceremonies – maybe more rewarding in an acting career like the 84thAcademy Awards that will take place on February, 26 2012 – are on the air.

However the general atmosphere of the film might seem disturbing and shallow. It shows an old and senile character talking to her imaginary dead husband, recollecting sweet memories of her children and personal ambition fragmented with historical events. But should this have been the main topic of this biopic?
